When to use them

  • You have a slab, pad, or footing that is already poured
  • You are converting or adding to a building on existing concrete
  • You are replacing rotted posts next to a slab
  • You want the concrete crew and framing crew to work on separate days

How they install

  1. Mark the column locations on the slab.
  2. Drill the anchor holes with a hammer drill and masonry bit.
  3. Set the bracket and install the concrete fasteners.
  4. Stand the wood column in the bracket and fasten it.

The slab is not cut or disturbed. Because brackets are placed after the pour, layout errors between the concrete and framing crews are easy to avoid.

Common Questions

Is my slab strong enough? That depends on its thickness, edge distance, and condition. Our design guide with calculations gives your engineer the numbers. It is free to download.

What if my columns are an odd size? SW60 and SW80 universal brackets pair together to fit any column size, including planed and glue-laminated columns. They carry the same shear and uplift values as the other models.

Which anchors should I use? The brackets work with epoxy, expansion, and screw-type wedge anchors. Your engineer or anchor supplier can match one to your slab.

What about damp buildings? Place a barrier between the treated wood and the steel bracket and use stainless steel fasteners.

I have not poured yet. Is there a stronger option? Yes. Wet-set Sturdi-Wall® Plus brackets cast into the concrete and offer the highest shear, uplift, and moment capacities.
